Renowned architect Ali Ghalamfarsa designed and built the home as a project he envisioned for bundling a home primarily of Hawaiian materials such as Ohia wood, a very dense tropical hardwood native to Hawaii which holds up well against the elements, masterfully using it for siding, decking, trellises and posts – an Ohia House by the Sea (Hale Ohia Kai). The architect owned the land for quite some time, camping on this oceanfront site to get a feel for the land. The structural and decorative Ohia tree columns and the intricately cut Ohia siding had to be gathered from fallen Ohia trees harvested on Hawaii Island over many years. The trees were carefully kiln dried and preserved to ensure their longevity; the resulting lumber is highly insect resistant and has a hardness and density meant to last.
Incredibly well built home, sitting on over 20 tons of concrete pillars. The beautiful limestone floors and the custom built consoles in the bedrooms feature a fossilized coral full of intricate details; the stunning leopard spotted granite of the kitchen and the leathered serpentine with its lush tropical green colors in the master bath were all laid by master stone artisans brought in from Vietnam. The home features Bosch, Thermidor, Frigidaire, and Subzero appliances, plus koa cabinetry; the master bath has a Kohler infinity edge tub with chromatotherapy lights and jets. The tub filler is in the ceiling issuing a dramatic column of water from that height! Of course, being able to roll right out of bed and into the oceanfront propane-heated spa means you might not use the amazing tub frequently! The infinity salt-water pool finished in cobalt blue glass tile appear to extend to the ocean’s edge. The adjacent oceanfront lot with over 15,000 sq. ft. can be purchased together with this property for $4,945,000 (vacant lot is listed separately MLS 294465).
Located next to world famous Holualoa Bay overlooking tidal pools, sanctuary for sea turtles, whales and dolphins
