For The Foodie

You might think of Hawaii mainly for surfing, beaches, and volcanoes, but the dining scene is robust and has something for everyone. Here is a selection of our favorite restaurants.

‘ULU Ocean Grill – Four Seasons Resort Hualālai

In keeping with the Four Seasons tradition of combining fine dining with local fare, ‘ULU Ocean Grill & Sushi Lounge features talented chefs from around the world who source ingredients from the ocean and local farms. Here you will find both traditional and innovative dishes of fresh island fish, meats, and produce in a beautiful seaside setting. It’s no wonder ‘ULU was named as one of the 100 Best Scenic View Restaurants in America in the 2013 OpenTable Diner’s Choice Awards. Zagat also named it the best restaurant on the island of Hawai’i.

Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar

Located at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar has long been recognized for its dynamic menu. More recently it has begun focusing on the latest trends in wine by offering what the resort calls an "enomatic wine experience,” an innovative way to serve 48 distinctive wines selected from the highest-end vintners.

The Shops at Mauna Lani

Here you will find a variety of dining options for all:

• Paris meets Hawai’i at The Blue Room Brasserie & Bar. Open from lunch until late, the Blue Room is known for casual excellence in French brasserie fare.

• For the sushi lover, look no further than Monstera. Chef and co-owner Norio Yamamoto trained in Tokyo and has more than two decades of experience working at the Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, and Fairmont Orchid Hawai’i. The atmosphere at Monstera is casual but beautiful with a staff that is gracious and welcoming.

• For those seeking a more traditional island feel, Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar is a perfect spot for lunch, dinner, or happy hour. Sunset views and warm island breezes compliment fresh fare including favorites like the Ahi Tuna Tacos, Grilled Chicken and Mango Salad, or the Guava Glazed Baby Back Pork Ribs.

Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill

Located in the heart of Kailua-Kona, Jackie Rey’s is a local favorite for its fresh island fare including seafood, steaks and salads. It has won Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence for two straight years (2014 and 2015), and Zagat says it is “worth veering off the beaten path to experience a cheerful, eclectic gem with outstanding service and wonderfully prepared seafood specials with expertly combined flavors and amazing wine list.”
